Taking the time to plan for a safe road trip starts with making sure you anticipate as many problems as possible. The following road safety checklist should help get you off in the right direction.

  • Keep a gas can in the trunk in case you run out of fuel because most people that could help will not be traveling around with a gas can
  • Be sure that you check the spare tire has enough air if you were to need it in an emergency. Bring some fix-a-flat just in case
  • Pack a gallon of engine coolant in the trunk in the event that the engine overheats. This could help get you back on the road instead of being stranded
  • Keep a box in the trunk with some tools like a hammer, screwdriver, adjustable wrench, and pliers

You should also pack and emergency kit that includes a flashlight, blanket, bottled water and a first aid kit. The little things can make big difference if you are broken down on the side of the road.
